Almost every year since its inception in the early 1990's I have participated in the annual third Saturday of November “Holodomor” commemoration at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. However, in particular since 2010 instead of finding some degree of solace from the beautiful religious service, I have been further saddened and sometimes infuriated by the governmental statements. From 2010 to 2013 when Victor Yanukovich, a Russian stooge was in power, Ukraine's representative at the commemoration would read a meaningless composition of verbiage. One year President Yanukovich forgot to issue a statement entirely.

My name is Maksym Cohen. I am a member of the Ukrainian American Youth Association in New York. I am a second generation Ukrainian American.

We the members of the Ukrainian American Youth Association ranging in age from 5 to 18 have been watching  events unfold in Ukraine over the last four months. We have watched as Ukrainians in Kyiv have lost their lives, been beaten and kidnapped, been shot and burned alive by a corrupt, inhumane pro-Putin backed government.

Ukrainians protest against Putin-ally Abramovich

On Saturday 8 March at 4pm Ukrainians living in London will protest outside Stamford Bridge against Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s support of Vladimir Putin.

The protesters are calling for the UK to back proposals for sanctions against Ukrainian and Russian oligarchs in London who have supported President Putin and his invasion of Ukraine.

Putin has made clear he is not interested in a diplomatic solution to the crisis, and the protesters believe sanctions against his supporters is one of the only options the West has to ensure peace in Crimea.
